Volcom Seed Event

Volcom have been doing some very exciting stuff, collaborating with London College of Fashion and they're 2nd Year Fashion Students. Students had to produce a series of creative denim womenswear pieces as part of Volcom SEED, an initiative led by Volcom that will support grassroots in fashion.

On 18 March, 250 media, students and Volcom fans turned up to amazing Vinyl Factory in London's SOHO to a showcase of the twenty best pieces from the collaboration along with a preview of Volcom’s AW10 collection. (how very exciting does this sound!)

They created a multimedia extravaganza having the event split into rooms. In one room was the live photoshoot and in the other was a party! CCTV and photographic images from the photoshoot were projected onto walls and TV's in the party room creating a showcase of the top 10 students work.

I POD TAKES 2ND PLACE IN THE SWATCH TTR WORLD TOUR

Volcom team rider Iouri “Ipod” Podladtchikov fresh off the plane from his win at the European X-Games, didn’t let the jet lag or the lost luggage stop him from taking 3rd. Starting out his finals run with a cab double cork 10, to a frontside 5, to the only double mctwist 1260 in the contest, and wrapping up his run with a huge front double cork 10. Landing him in the 3rd place spot. Not only that but Iouri also walked away with 2nd in the Burton Global Open Series AND 2nd in the Swatch TTR world tour.

Overall I-Pod has had an incredible winter, from taking 4th at the Olympics, winning the European X games, the Canadian Open, and taking second at the Winter X games. And on top of all that being the second person ever to land the famed double Mctwist 1260!!!

HUGE TAHITI SWELL ROCKS CLOSING DAYS OF 2010 BILLABONG XXL BIG WAVE AWARDS

The annual event period for the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards presented by Monster Energy coincided with the end of the Northern Hemisphere winter last Saturday – but a last-minute off-season swell slamming Tahiti has turned the competition upside down with a fresh influx of stunning big wave images. The largest waves seen there in three years (and some of the heaviest tubes ever photographed) heaved across the legendary reef at Teahupoo on March 17, scraping in under today’s final deadline for entering images into the XXL event.

For the first time in the ten-year history of the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards, a swell with the power to rearrange the potential nominees has come in the final week of the year-long competition. A unique event in surfing, the XXL honors the greatest achievements in big wave riding anywhere in the world at any time -- based on the photographic evidence. Generally, the short list of Billabong XXL Awards nominees has firmed up by late March, a time when the North Pacific and Atlantic are settled down for the season and the South Seas have yet to come to life. But in a year of high surf superlatives, it should not have come as a surprise that an off-season game-changer would suddenly appear.

Yup, you read right... Ipod got his Olympic redemption and then some, after taking home the Gold X Games medal already in his 2nd out 3 final runs...

His winning run started with a cab 10 doublecork, to fs 5 to a perfect double Mctwist 1260 to fs 10 to Cab 7. And that run earned him a score of 98 out of a possible 100 points. Then, in his final run, he went apeshit and stomped the highest Method's and Air to fakie of the whole event..

Not much else to say than a huge congratulations to Ipod. He is only the 2nd person to ever land the double Mctwist 12, after Shaun White.

New Mens brand Rusty- its here

Over a month ago we dropped the bomb that we would be stocking Rusty awesome mens surf wear brand and now its finally here.
We'd thought we would start the blog with a wee history lesson for those of you not particularly in the know.
On December 5 of ’05, Clark Foam closes its doors on the surfboard industry forever, initiating one of the most tragic days in the history of the sport. Rusty along with hundreds of other global surfboard builders take quite a hit but find optimism in what will surely be coming years full of innovation.
In spite of the dark cloud hung over us all by the Clark Closure, the Rusty brand takes a fresh look at the youth market it has remained a leader of for so long and finds its mission for 2006: All About Surfing and All About the Beach. By the end of January ('06), Hawaiian phenom Jamie O'Brien signed on and commenced to blow up harder than ever before with four magazine covers in the month April. Along with Jamie "The Freak" O'Brien, San Clemente, California's Nate Yeomons joins the team and begins his assault on the WQS and focuses on making the Dream Tour in the coming years. And while the team solidifies, innovation in surfboard construction and design flourishes in many directions, confirming that the show will indeed go on and that life without Clark isn't so bad after all.

First Surfing Contest at Bournemouths Surf Reef

Sorted Surf Shop have announced the first surfing contest to be held at Bournemouth surf reef. They will be bringing the event to the beach at Boscombe with the help of main sponsor Rip Curl.

The dates are March 20th and 21st and the weekend will consist of surfing and bodyboarding competitions, as well as activities and demonstration stands with equipment for all to try.

The contest categories will consist of a Mens Open, Mens 35+, Ladies Open, and Groms (under 18’s). It will also host the first leg of the British Bodyboarding Annual Championships.

Monster Energy Drink will be hosting the after party being held at Urban Beach. There you will find all of the contest organisers, sponsors and contest competitors enjoying a BBQ, drink and live music with a few surprises thrown in to the mix.

So yes standing on one leg proved to be difficult when you are being pushed down on one arm without the EFX WRISTBAND, but with it on, now that was a whole different story. I was quite simply irresistable to wobble nudges and came through in true michelin man style! Hurray for that, who needs the gym when you can have one of these!

Steph Gilmore wins at Roxy Pro Event

Congrats to Steph Gilmore! After three world titles already in her bag, she starts off this season with another win at the Roxy Pro this weekend.

In punchy 2-3 foot waves, the reigning three-time ASP World Champion was able to capture an early heat lead and defeat Hawaiian veteran Melanie Bartels in the final, claiming her third title at Snapper Rocks.

Next event on the ASP World Tour is the Rip Curl Pro Surf & Music Festival at Bells Beach from March 30 to April 5, so stayed tuned for more info!

Australian Taj Burrow has won the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, beating Jordy Smith of South Africa in 2- to 3-foot waves. Burrow now tops the ASP World Tour rankings after the first event of the 2010 season.
